Have you met SIMOA?
SIMOA stands for Safe, Inspect, Monitor, Observe and Act. Our friendly elephant helps children learn how to recognise potential risks, think about how they can keep themselves and others safe, and develop confidence in making safe choices.
At nursery, SIMOA helps our children become confident little safety detectives! We encourage them to look carefully at their surroundings, spot anything that could be a risk, talk about what they notice and think about what they can do to make things safer.
From exploring our indoor and outdoor spaces to learning about staying safe when we are out and about, SIMOA helps us make safety learning fun, meaningful and part of everyday life.
SIMOA Goes Home!
Each week, SIMOA and his special SIMOA Diary go home with a child, giving them the opportunity to take SIMOA along on their adventures.
Children can take SIMOA with them to places they visit, at home or while out and about. Together with their families, they can:
We love looking through the SIMOA Diaries when they return to nursery and hearing all about the children's adventures, observations and ideas. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to share their experiences, develop their confidence and understand that they can play an important part in keeping themselves and others safe.
SIMOA isn't about making children worried about risks. Instead, it is about helping them understand that we can notice, think, talk and act to help make the world around us safer.
Who knows what SIMOA's next adventure will be!
